Lee Ann Hundt

Executive Director, KW Urban Native Wigwam Project

Lee Ann has been working at KWUNWP since January 2019 and previously spent over 5 years on the Board of Directors. She is a mother of 4 and Nokomis (Grandmother) to 4 wonderful grandchildren. From Sagamok First Nations, they spent their childhood in the city of Sudbury and the reserve at Chapleau Ojibwe First Nations.

Lee Ann is a 60’s scoop survivor, removed from the reserve to live in the small town of Atwood, about an hour from Kitchener, ON. Her grandmother was in residential school and was disenfranchised (had her Native Status removed) when she married a non-Native man.

Lee Ann is driven by the injustices and the effects of the generational trauma that so many of us face on a daily basis. She strives to be part of the positive and impactful change needed for truth and reconciliation. She is often inspired in her work, watching people succeed every day, breaking down barriers and surviving despite what folks have been through. Since starting with 41 units in Kitchener, today KWUNWP has a total of 150 units for Indigenous singles and families across Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. Moving forward, there is so much more to do when it comes to housing the First Peoples of this land.
