Andrew Whittemore

Commissioner of Planning & Building, City of Mississauga

Andrew Whittemore, has been the Commissioner of Mississauga’s Planning & Building Department since 2018, and has over 25 years of experience in urban planning. Andrew’s career began in Halifax, pioneering the city’s inaugural Regional Plan post-amalgamation.

In Mississauga, Andrew has spearheaded multiple award-winning projects, including the city’s first Affordable Housing strategy and a robust Infill strategy. Andrew’s been a vanguard for planning reform, stakeholder engagement, advancing electronic applications, LEAN principles, and most recently leading the integration of regional planning services from the Region of Peel as well as the Mayor’s Housing Task Force and the Partners in Building Report.

One of Andrew’s greatest honours was to participate in the Governor General of Canada’s Leadership Conference where he travelled The Northwest Territories with other national leaders. Andrew holds a B.Sc. from Acadia University and a Master’s in Urban and Rural Planning from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.
